Abstract

The development of the Code of Dental Ethics (CDE) guides the dentist regarding their rights and duties, serving as a reference for the professional seeking appreciation while respecting ethical principles. The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of studying the Code of Dental Ethics in universities. To this end, a literature review was conducted using the Lilacs, BBO - Dentistry, and Scielo databases, employing the following keywords: Codes of Ethics; Dentistry; Dental Education; Dental Ethics. As a result of careful reading, 15 articles from the last 5 years on the topic were selected. The selected articles emphasized the importance of studying the CDE from the beginning of dental students' education, so they can become responsible professionals both in knowledge and care. Even with changes in its versions and technological advances, the Code of Dental Ethics should establish strict rules that definitively discourage misconduct. Thus, greater dissemination and study of the CDE are essential to clarify the dentist's profession, strengthen the humanization of care, and guide professionals regarding their rights, duties, and working conditions.
